Summer Basic Repeats

The temperatures are occasionally starting to drop here in Portugal, so I can feel myself getting more excited about fall sewing. But before I switch gears, I really want to share a few things I sewed in the past month for my summer wardrobe.

All of these patterns are great. They are so nice, I sewed them twice (or sometimes more)! And since I’ve sewn all of these before, I’m lumping them together, and I’ll link to the original blog posts if you’re interested in reading those.

First up are these EA Saturday Shorts. I made my very first pair out of a similar black 6oz cotton twill a couple of years ago, but the crotch curve wasn’t quite scooped enough and they were pretty uncomfortable to wear/sit down in.

These are all fixed, exactly the same way I fixed my second pair, and I’m so glad to have a pair of black shorts again because they’re so versatile!

Next up, I sewed my new favorite pattern from this summer, the Tabitha Tank. I scooped out the front armscyes abut .5″ and went with a size truer to my measurements with these two tanks. I’ve worn them so much, and I’m always sad when they’re in the dirty laundry.

I made these out of the same cotton spandex I made my first one with, just in different colors.

Lastly, I made one more black Blomma Tank, because… can you ever have too many black tank tops? This is a ribbed knit fabric I got from my friend Pauline’s fabric de-stash, and it was just perfect for the Blomma. There wasn’t a whole lot of the fabric, so I had to sew the armbands in pieces. Luckily, you can’t even tell.

I made my normal size and didn’t make any changes to the pattern. I think I had a bit of pattern-adjustment-fatigue after I tried changing the pattern the first few times I sewed it and didn’t see much of a difference. So, I just went with the original.

I would love to make another dress and some shorts before the summer weather is completely over, but we’ll see. I’m just so happy to have these pieces in rotation now because they are the best. Do you have any favorite patterns you’ve remade recently?

Thank you so much for reading my blog post today, and happy sewing!

  1. Because you made the Tabitha tank, I had to give it a try. I lengthened it into a long dress and it is one of the most fun dresses that I have in my closet. Thank you for the ideas!

    1. Oh my gosh, this makes me so happy!! I’m so glad you love it as much as I do. I love wearing my Tabitha Tank Dress too!

  2. Nice to find such great tried and true patterns that you just know are going to work! I think any hope of shorts weather may be gone from the PNW at this point. Seems to be hovering in the low to mid 60’s. I never wear shorts but I have been debating packing a pair for my Safari in case it’s in the 80’s. These would definitely work if I decide to go for it. Love the cut of these tops too. I find myself reaching for the same few that I have over and over (and they make such good layering pieces).
So nice to see that your making the most out of your beautiful weather and sewing skills 😘

    1. Thank you, Karen! πŸ’• Yeah, I never wore shorts nearly enough in the PNW, so I understand not needing them as much. But I agree that these shorts would be nice for the warm weather when you go on your Safari trip! Some lighter weight pants would be nice too, especially if mosquitoes are an issue. I find myself reaching for similar tops lately too. A lot of the time I just want the ease of something basic, and it does help with layering. I’m looking forward to chatting soon! XOXO

  3. You look really nice. You have learned so much about pattern adjustments. And nice to know when the trouble is not worth the adjustment…it looks great either way! Love you! Grandma Frame πŸ’•

    1. Thank you, Grandma! πŸ’• Yes, some adjustments make a huge difference, and others aren’t worth the extra effort when it’s hardly noticeable. It’s nice to know that now!
