Janie Dress with Ballerina Neckline

Is there anything better than a really good twirly dress??

I made this Janie Dress (6mo-12yr by Mouse House Creations) for Vanessa a couple of months ago, and she has surprisingly worn it quite a bit! It always makes me so happy when she requests to wear it. She wore it on a cooler day with her new shoes and a jacket and looked like a mini-Avril Lavigne. It’s been the perfect play dress, and it already has stains that I’m too lazy to deal with. This is a cotton/spandex fabric that I thrifted, so it’s the perfect fabric for me to not worry about.

Since she’s starting to grow out of her first Janie dress, I thought it was a good time to make another one before the temperatures get too cold, and I added pockets this time (for seashells and rocks, obviously), which she was thrilled about. I need to remember to under-stitch the pockets because they don’t lay very nicely, but that’s an easy fix.

She is still measuring at the size 3T, but I wanted to make sure it would fit her a while longer, so I made the size 5T. It’s a little bit big, but it doesn’t bother her. I went with the ballerina neckline this time because the crew neckline on her first one was difficult to get over her head. The ballerina neckline is so cute.

We love this pattern, and I see many Janie Dresses in the future as long as Vanessa still likes it too. Happy sewing! xoxo

  1. I remember twirling as a youngster. It was the best! Such a fun dress for Vanessa and I’m glad you are not overly worried about stains. Such fun! 💕🎉
