This is your friendly reminder to start sewing those dresses so they can be worn all summer long!
This is the third Janie Dress (sizes: 6mo – 12yrs) that I’ve made for Vanessa, and she LOVES it. She wears these dresses anytime they’re clean, and I love watching her walk down the sidewalk and then randomly twirl. She even does it now when she’s not wearing the dresses, but probably wishes she was. Haha.
The one I made for her at the end of last summer was a little bit big on her when I first made it, but it fits her perfectly now. So, I decided to make this dress the same size, but make the skirt length 1″ longer.
She loves the ballerina neckline, and I think it’s so cute. The first Janie that I made for her had a regular crew neck, but it was difficult to get over her head. It might be different with the bigger sizes, but I haven’t tried it again yet.
She also didn’t want pockets in this dress, which I was kind of relieved about. I added pockets to her second one, and they’re kind of bulky and she doesn’t end up using them much anyway. She really loves wearing her Tether Pouch, so she was less excited about pockets this time around.
This beautiful cotton/spandex is a fabric I purchased from Style Maker before we moved out of the US. It’s an Art Gallery Fabrics print from last year, I think. Style Maker always has so many good cotton jersey knits in prints and solid colors.
This time, I made little shorts to go with it, and I think they are so cute. She’s a lot more active and climbing on things at the park, so I thought it was a good idea and a great way to use the leftover fabric. I used the FREE Leggin’s pattern from Love Notions and made them with a ~5″ inseam.
This probably won’t be the last Janie Dress you ever see (or at least I hope not), since I’ve gotten in the habit of making her a new one every year. Sewing for kids is way more rewarding when you know it’s something that they’re going to love!
Thank you for reading my blog today, and happy sewing! xoxo

Cavanaugh would love this, plus sheโs always tumbling and doing cartwheels so the shorts would be great! I bought a piece of soft leopard print fabric recently and I think it will be perfect.
Thanks for sharing. โBaby Girlโ looks adorable ๐ฅฐ
I’m sure she would! Leopard print would be so cute and very fitting coming from you. ๐ This is such a great dress pattern. We are huge fans! Thank you, Karen! ๐
What fun for Vanessa! I love to think about her twirling down the sidewalk!
It really is fun to watch! If I get a video of it, I’ll try sending it to you.
