Happy New Year, friend. The beginning of 2025 feels pretty heavy so far, but I hope you are safe and finding ways to make a positive difference in the world and lives of the people around you.
I had my mom here visiting since Christmas, and she just went home on Thursday, so I’m pretty slow at getting this reflection of the past year posted. But I really enjoyed doing this post last year, and it felt like a nice way to kind of close the year and try to set some intentions for this year.
After counting up everything, I was so surprised that I made 13 things for other people! I don’t think the number has been that high in a while. Some things were relatively quick and easy to make, and other things being more time consuming. So, I think it’s still pretty cool that I made that many.
Here is the years’ breakdown.
Tops: 13
Bottoms: 3
Dresses: 2
Bags: 4
Selfless Makes: 13
Total 35
2024 Instagram Top Nine (from top left to bottom right)
Genra Shirt | Neve Sweater | Lego Playmat & Bag (Tutorial coming soon!)
Effigie Shirt | Duplantier Dress | Olya Shirt
Fragola Top | Scandinavian Stars | Cynthia Blouse & Free Range Slacks
I think I was the most surprised that my Christmas gifts post ended up getting so many likes and saves, but it’s probably because more people were on Instagram since they weren’t at work or school. They are really fun makes though, and I have a tutorial coming soon for the Lego Playmat & Bag–just in case it’s helpful for people who aren’t quite sure how to make one.
Some of my favorite things ended up being my top ‘most liked’ Instagram posts as well. I wore my Genra Shirt and Effigie Shirt all summer. I love wearing 100% cotton, and those were great on warmer days. I also wore my beige Free Range Slacks a bunch during the fall when the weather was a little cooler.
My Neve Sweater has been worn so much in the mornings when I take my kids to school and on cold days. I definitely want to make more for me and Dallas, because he wears his Neve a lot too.
Things that I wore in heavy rotation but not in my most liked posts were definitely my Tabitha Tanks and dress. I also used my all of the bags I made this year, especially my Tether Pouch and Fairmount Bag.
There are a few patterns I’ve purchased recently and would love to make this year. I bought the Coe Trousers pattern, and I’m equally curious and nervous about making them, so we’ll see when they get made. I also got the Marty pattern, and I would love to make the shirt dress view. Last year I bought the Made Belt Bag and had good intentions on making it but never got around to it. So, I’m hoping that is something I get to this year, too.
I also can’t help making a few more t-shirts and button up shirts too, so those might show up here. I’m not sure how adventurous I’ll be this year, but time will tell, and I hope I surprise myself in a few ways like I did this year.
How do you feel about the things you sewed in 2024? Do you have anything exciting planned for this year? I always love hearing from you, and it’s always fun to share what you’re excited about.
As always, thank you for being here and reading my blog. This year will mark 9 years since I started sewing garments and I’m always so grateful when my blog posts help to inspire you or help you make adjustments to something you’re making.
I hope you have a really great year and that it includes lots of time to make the things that you love. xoxo
I also surprised myself with doing some sewing during 2024. I helped Makenna make an apron for cooking. In December i sewed 4 “hot pads for bowls” for Benj and Jamie because we went to their house for Christmas Day. Grandpa and I have loved our hot pads for bowls and use them every day. When we microwave our food, it comes out hot…but we want to eat it while it’s hot. As always, I love reading your blogs. It was so good to see your pictures taken over the holiday when your sweet mother came. Love you!
Those are all great things! It’s nice to make things that are so useful. Dallas wears the apron that I made for him all the time when he makes dinner. Thanks for always reading my posts, Grandma! Love you too.
