The new Neve Sweater & Tee pattern by Sew.lala is out now, and it’s such a great pattern! I love all 3 views, and I can’t wait to make the other two. I helped test the pattern and made view B, the crewneck sweatshirt version.
I have a RTW Hanes sweater that I wear all the time, and I’ve always wanted a sweater pattern that was similar to it. I tried the Jarrah Sweater by Megan Nielsen a few years ago, but it just wasn’t right, and I always had to make lots of adjustments to it.
Since I wanted this to fit like my RTW sweater and I was inbetween the size 10 and 12, I decided to go with the larger size. I also lengthened the sleeves by 1.5cm/.5″ and the bodice by 2.5cm/1″. It fits so nicely, and I am a huge fan.
I usually dread the neckline binding, but I’m always willing to try it if the pattern actually calls for it. I don’t know if there’s magic in Anna’s pattern, if I’m finally getting better at neckline bindings, or if it’s just a lot easier with French terry (maybe a little of all three), but the neckline and binding came out SO nice! It’s recommended to use ribbing for the neckline and mine went in perfectly.
Every time I do a neckline binding, I use wash away Wonder Tape under the serged seam allowance so that I can easily wrap the binding around and stick it in place. Pins are great, but I just find the small strip of fabric too fiddly and the knit fabric layers can be hard to stick pins through, so wash away tape is always my go-to in these situations.
I saw the cutest matching sweatsuit from Na Nin (comparison below) last year and ever since then I’ve wanted to make a matching sweatshirt and shorts combo. I tried the Essential Shorts a few months ago and they worked pretty well, so I decided to make them in the same fabric as my sweater, with the ribbing for the waistband.
I’m really wishing that I would have gone down a size or two in the shorts, especially since my first ones were made in a woven, and they were also very roomy. I made the waistband 2 3/8″ wide so that I could use a thicker elastic band. Because I did that, they are higher waisted than I’m used to. It does match my inspiration really well, so I’m happy about that. Plus, I’ll just be wearing them at home, so comfort is the important thing, and they are very comfortable.
The sweater came together so nicely that I contemplated making one for Dallas, too. I had enough ribbing left over for another, I just needed to order more of the French terry. So, when the fabric came, I immediately made it! This is the fastest I’ve ever made something for Dallas after saying that I would. Usually, it’s many months later. But I really enjoyed making this sweater, and it came together beautifully both times!
This pattern could be considered unisex because it’s pretty boxy and straight down on the sides. That made it really easy for me to just lengthen it by a few inches and not make any other adjustments when I made this one for Dallas. It fits him so well and he likes it so much, he wore it most of last week over his t-shirts. Then yesterday I was wearing mine and Vanessa said, “Mom, why are you wearing Dad’s sweater?” and I immediately said, “This is my sweater!” Haha. Then I had to explain that we just have matching sweaters.
So now Dallas and I just fight over whose turn it is to wear their green sweater every day so that we don’t have a funny matchy situation. Maybe we should just embrace it?
If you need the perfect crewneck sweater, zipped sweater, or comfy tee to get you through the winter the Neve is 20% off until Friday, December 6. The pattern is available in English and German, and the instructions/illustrations are very well done.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments below, and happy Neve sewing! xoxo

Lovely Tori – I have been looking for matching French terry/ribbing – where did you find it???? My husband and I very often accidentally at least wear the same colors, we embrace it 🙂
Thank you, Linda! I bought this medium weight French Terry from Divazus (an online store here in Portugal), but it’s sold out now and I don’t think they’re restocking it. If you’re the US, Style Maker Fabrics and I See Fabrics usually have really great matching French terry/ribbing options!
