I am so excited to share these Hudson Pants by True Bias, and my newest long sleeve Panama Tee by Alina Design Co., because I pretty much haven’t taken them off since I finished them (don’t worry, it’s only been two days so far. #momlife). They are both SO comfortable, and you better believe I’m making many more. Neither of them would be nearly as comfortable without both of these fabrics!
The Hudson pants are made out of french terry from Indiesew (unfortunately sold out – but if Allie gets more in stock you’re going to want to jump on that!). I had never sewn with french terry before, but now I definitely need more. My Panama Tee is made out of black rayon jersey. It was SO easy to cut out, and it was really nice to sew with. The edges don’t roll at all, and it is so, so soft. Daylight savings put me in a bit of a time crunch for photos, and I sewed the tee together in less than an hour!
I didn’t have time to hem it before photos, but I actually just got a cover stitch machine, so this is the first thing I hem (after I figure out how to use it, of course)!
For those who have been following for the past few months, you know the Panama Tee pattern is my #1 TNT (tried-and-true) pattern. The only alteration I made was to lengthen it 2 inches at the waist ‘lengthen/shorten’ line. I didn’t add anymore length other than that. The sleeves are already super long, so I cut those like normal. Oh! I also added a 1/2 inch of width to the neckband so that it wasn’t quite so narrow.
I had the bodice pieces for the dress version already cut out and altered, so I just folded at the line that says “cut here for shirt”, so that the bottom dress length wouldn’t get in the way while I was cutting. It made the process SO much quicker than tracing all new pieces. I made a size 12, and it is the most comfortable long sleeve!
I have been wanting to make some Hudson Pants for the longest time, but I was a little bit stuck because my husband doesn’t like the style very much, and I also haven’t made any kind of pants before. So making something I was unfamiliar with was a little nerve wracking. Once I committed and decided to ignore what my husband thought of them 😉 I was so happy that I had made them!
The instructions were super easy to follow and made perfect sense. The only alteration made was to lengthen them by 2 inches at the ‘lengthen/shorten’ line. These are also a size 12, and they fit wonderfully! Since I’m a stay-at-home-mom, there are some days when I don’t want to lounge around in big frumpy clothes all day, but I also don’t want to get all dressed up if we’re not going anywhere. This outfit is perfect for those days. It’s still comfortable, and it doesn’t make me feel like a slob.
The one thing I might do differently on my next Hudsons is to make the ankle bands a tiny bit wider. It was like the stretch of life trying to sew them onto the bottom of the pants, and since my feet are kind of big, it’s not as easy to get them on. But other than that, they are awesome!
I have a feeling I’m going to be making a lot more Hudsons and Panamas because it’s starting to get chilly in the Bay Area, and I’m running low on long sleeves and sweats. My mom has requested some Hudsons as well, so they are on their way to becoming a TNT too!
Fun fact: Before I started sewing both of these, I looked at my serger and I still had maroon thread from anther project. Instead of changing the thread back to black, I decided to just serge the inside of both with maroon thread! I love that about sewing — Not that I was lazy, but that the insides of both of these garments are so happy. Now, what else do I have that I can serge together with maroon thread??
What are your favorite patterns for the Fall/Winter season?
Fabric was given to me from Indiesew for this post. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.
So cute! I love the Hudson pants. I really need some cute sweats, so I will have to give that pattern a try. 🙂
Thank you, Sky! <3 They are really cute and I wore them for 3 days before Braden spit up on them, and now they definitely need washed. haha. The pattern was super easy to follow and I LOVE them!
I’ve been ambivalent about the Hudson pants until seeing yours. They are absolutely adorable and I must make a pair (or twelve) now. Love the shirt too. Your husband may not be a fan of that style, but you’re rocking them!
That’s so nice if you to say, Carol! They are so comfortable, and it’s honestly a really good pattern. Thank you so much for your comment!
