The newest sew.lala Suna pattern (sizes up to 59″ bust/61″ hip) is here! I helped test the pattern and can vouch that it’s a good one.

I’ve tried a few different tank top patterns over the past couple of years, and I wear all of them constantly during the summer. So, when I saw the call for Suna pattern testers, I knew I needed to either test it or buy it when it was released.

Luckily, I was able to test the pattern, and I’ve been wearing my practice versions to get the pattern just right for me. There were a couple of changes made throughout the testing process, so I’m sharing my two final versions today.

View A has a high neckline in the front and back. I used a cotton spandex and sewed a straight size 12. Since the fabric doesn’t have very high stretch, I could have sized up, but it still fits well. I also needed to adjust the length of the bands since they require really stretchy fabric like a ribbing or something with a higher stretch percentage.

I like when the armscye hits a little further below my armpit, so I tried something new this time and lengthened the straps. It was a little bit tricky because I needed to lengthen the straps (by 5/8″ – 1.25″ total) but not change the neckline. It worked out nicely, and I’m happy with where the underarm hits now.

I did the first binding option for this view, which is just the most common way of attaching binding. I didn’t have the right color thread to topstitch, but that is an option once you’re finished sewing the bindings on.

I love the simplicity and elegance of this view. I definitely see myself making more in the future.

View B has a lower neckline and even lower back, but not so low that it will show your bra. I used a very thin and drapey knit (this is another fabric from @sewuthinkucan, so I’m not sure the content) and sewed a straight size 12. You can really see how fabric affects the fit because I sewed the exact same size, but the black one is noticeably looser.

I did the second binding option for this view, which kind of wraps around and then you topstitch it in place. It was really stretchy fabric, so it worked well for this binding method. I lengthened the straps on this view as well, but only by 1/2″ each (front and back), or 1″ total.

I’ve never sewn or worn anything with that low of a back neckline, so it’s kind of fun and really nice in the summer. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

What’s awesome is that you can combine the views and have a high neckline in front with a really low back, or you can have more of a scoop neckline with a regular back. There’s even a separate binding pattern piece for anyone who wants to mix the views.

The Suna pattern is 20% off for the next week and is available in English and German. This pattern is such a nice basic and it’s nice to have a pattern I know will get lots of use.
