If you participated in Me Made May this year – Congratulations! We made it through another year of MMM. Now that I’ve been sewing for 10 years, a good majority of my wardrobe is me-made things, so most days I’m wearing something that I made. But it’s fun to document it for the whole month, try to be intentional, and look back on it when it’s over.

I noticed that I have 3 levels of getting dressed:
1 – I want to come up with something really cute to wear today!
2 – *throws something together* Eh, this is fine.
3 – I don’t have the energy for this.

I can literally go through all of these photos and label them based on that alone. Lol. It could just be that the having two kids in preschool/elementary school phase is its own kind of exhausting. It’s been a miracle if we’re all healthy for longer than one week. Which is why the beginning and end of May were particularly difficult this year, and I have 4 days missing.

Colors!
Lately, I find myself gravitating towards pink and green. I recently made a hot pink matching set that I’ll be blogging about soon, and I have really enjoyed wearing the pieces separately with things in my wardrobe. Who knew hot pink shorts were so versatile!

I’ve never worn very much brown/copper/beige, but since adding a few pieces over the last couple of years, those things have become the most worn things in my closet. I just made the brown t-shirt (1st image, 2nd row, middle), and I really like it so far. I have a couple of other brown makes planned, and I think they’ll be worn a lot too.

I notice that I stick to solids more when I’m not feeling great and tend to wear prints when I’m feeling more confident and healthy. I also really like the way that adding a bag makes the outfit more fun.

Future Sewing Plans
One ambitious project I would like to complete this fall is making the Coe Trousers. I love my elastic waisted pants, and they aren’t going anywhere, but since I haven’t made a pair of fitted pants since my jeans debacle in 2019, I would like to try again. I have a really nice gabardine fabric in the color ‘pecan pie’ that I bought from Atelier Brunette last year that I’ve been saving especially for this.

I have seen print pants EVERYWHERE in the past month, and I’m dying to make some. I’ve been eyeing some black and white block printed fabrics from Fibers to Fabric, so you may see those in the late summer/early fall.

I would love to make another bag for myself this year, but the task always feels a little bit daunting, or maybe just not as fun as making clothes. Besides that, I just have basic makes, like tops and bottoms, that I would really like to make so that my wardrobe feels a little more well-rounded and complete.

Final Thoughts
I actually feel really happy looking through all of these outfits. There are a few at the beginning that are a little sad to me, but I wasn’t feeling 100%. The rest are actually really fun, and I liked wearing them a lot. I love being able to pull out makes from years ago, and it makes me feel good that I still love wearing them regularly all these years later.

I’m looking forward to continuing to share my makes here with you, and I’m so happy to have you here. I hope you gain something or are inspired to make something that you will love for years too.

Thank you for today’s blog post and let me know if you have any questions about specific makes or comments. I’m always happy to hear from you. xoxo

  1. I took my sewing machine in to be adjusted. I have made my bedroom into a studio, with a 6′ table for sewing and family history. I’m happy about it. I joined a sewing group that will meet twice this month. We’ll see what I do. You inspire me!

    1. Those are all such good things, Grandma! I’m happy that you’ve been able to find opportunities to do things for yourself again. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do!
