Yesterday was a good day to reflect on the brave and courageous people in my life who have served our country.
My Grandpa Nielson served in Vietnam, and I know it was really hard for him to leave his family. It was a very hard war. When we were there visiting last year, he started telling me a few stories, and you can tell it still pains him and is really hard for him to think or talk about that time in his life. I look up to him and how much he loves his family and country.
My Grandpa Nielson’s brother, Jim, was a police officer his whole career, and also served in the Air Force during part of Vietnam. I remember seeing all of his cases hung up around his office with all of his badges and awards. I know he served his country well and he was a great man.
So many people have given their lives for this country, and it is no small thing. I am grateful to live in a country where I can feel safe in my comfortable house and enjoy the freedoms that we so often take for granted.
These two quotes stood out to me today when I read them, “Home of the free, because of the brave”, and “Some gave all”. Some had to give so much, and I honestly don’t know if I could do it. I am grateful for the brave men and women who have fought for our freedom.
Every Tuesday, I take a minute to reflect and write on what I am grateful for that week. I have found that it helps me take a step back to appreciate the blessing in my life, big or small.
So, what are you grateful for today? What have you noticed this week that you are grateful for? I would love to hear what you are grateful for in the comments. Have a great Tuesday!
