Another month of May has come to a close and, like usual, I tried when I could and let it be when I couldn’t. I had fun coming up with new combinations and got inspiration from a few different looks that I had saved to my Pinterest board. I think I missed 4-5 days from being sick or not feeling well, but I’m pretty happy with my efforts on the days that I was able to document.
(Outfits shown chronologically below)

I didn’t really feel like I had a lot of “wardrobe gaps”, but I do remember thinking that I wish I had a pair of green shorts. I have the fabric for them, but I’ve been waiting on a pattern that might be in testing soon.
I’ve been sewing a lot of knits and basics because that is very obviously what I love to wear. I’ve been really excited about getting dressed lately knowing that I have so many things that I really like and feel good wearing.
If you have questions about any of these outfits just let me know and I can direct you to the pattern and/or blog post.
Tackling the Mending Pile!

If you look at my very first photo from MMM, I was wearing this Barbie shirt, but the neckline was white. This is a nightshirt that I thrifted and repurposed into a t-shirt, but I used white ribbing in the neckline and ended up not liking it very much. I had been dreading redoing it, but after wearing it on May 1st, I decided it was time.
I had some leftover fabric from the nightshirt that I saved, so I measured the neckline and recalculated the neckband length. I used this neck binding tutorial from Megan Nielsen, and it worked perfectly! Her neck binding method works really well for really thin cotton knits. I’m SO happy that I finally fixed it, and I think it elevates the look of it more than the white neckband did.

These Calvin Klein leggings got a hole in the knee a few months ago and I think the reason I put them in my mending pile was because I was going to try fixing the hole(?). But it is 100 times easier to just cut off the bottom and make them shorts! I don’t wear long leggings very often, so this made a lot more sense. They will also double as a layer under billowy dresses because the wind here is a bit unpredictable, and I like to avoid flashing people.

This is a Cynthia/Genra Shirt that I cut out last June. I planned to wear it as a matching set with shorts on a cruise that we went on last year, but I didn’t have enough time to finish. Then when we got back, I took a break from sewing for a few months…and then it was a bit unseasonal. I also was a little apprehensive about how it was going to turn out, so it sat cut out for almost a year. I’m happy to say that it’s completely finished, and I will be blogging about it in the next month!

This is the Ashton Top to another matching set that I made for our summer cruise last year, but the armscye was a little too high and cutting into my armpit. I lazily cut off the old binding and then I was really nervous that the new arm hole was going to be too big, so I just postponed my disappointment. Lol.
But I finally cut new bias binding out of the same linen fabric and sewed it on! The armscye is kind of big now, but it’s not that bad. I wore the whole set for one of the last days of May, so you can see it above with my MMM photos.
Life Lately

Dallas and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary and went to lunch while our kids were at school. I got a cold from our daughter and was really sick the next day, so I was glad we celebrated while we had the chance!

At the end of the month, I went to see my friend Teresa‘s newest exhibit at the Roca Gallery in Lisbon. I swear I was just at her last exhibit! I’m starting to think she doesn’t sleep… She made the incredible banner that was hung from the building! I need to know how many yards of fabric that took. She has a photo of herself sewing it and it is insane and the photo needs to be framed.
She also had other art installations inside with the theme: The Beauty in Everyday Rituals. They were all so beautiful. I think the one with the green color blocking and stitched hands is my favorite though (last photo below). The exhibit will be at the Roca Gallery in Lisbon until August 28th.

It was a good month, and I was happily surprised when I found the motivation to fix so many things that I had been putting off. I think cleaning my sewing space the past couple of months has cleared my mind a little bit, and it felt more doable.
How was your Me Made May? Did you participate or have any goals for the month? I would love to know.
Thank you for reading todays post and happy sewing! xoxo
